Assessment Meeting: January 14, 2002
Present: John
Achter, Mark Jensen, Susan Larson, Michelle Latt, Viann Pederson, Don Rice,
Kay Schneider, Jennie Taylor, Mike Wohlfeil
Recorder: Mark Jensen
- We discussed an assessment mini-grant application
recently received from the Biology department that seeks funds to
administer an ETS subject test to graduating biology majors.
Since this test is given every year as part of the departmental
assessment plan, it was decided that they should not be required to
resubmit a grant application each year.
The Office of Assessment will continue to fund this testing up to
$1000 per year. It was discussed whether or not funding of this type
should come from departmental budgets.
It was decided that the Office of Assessment would continue fund
these activities as long as the availability of these funds was not a
problem.
- The Dean's office has provided Kay with copies of the
assessment information included in departmental annual reports.
Our committee will begin looking at this information for the
purpose of providing feedback to the departments.
Kay will send us copies of these reports before our next meeting.
At the next meeting we will discuss a process for carrying out
these evaluations.
- Mike and Kay will begin sending regular assessment
information updates to students via email through Cobweb Express.
The first report will hopefully be sent this Friday (1/18) with
subsequent reports being sent every two weeks.
This information will be primarily based on assessment data
accumulated by Academic Affairs, along with possible contributions from
Student Affairs. The purpose of these reports is to give students the
opportunity to see the results of the many surveys and tests they take
for assessment purposes, and to see how these results are being used to
improve the quality of education at Concordia.
- We considered possible dates for the assessment
symposium/dinner to be held later this semester and decided upon
Thursday, March 7. Kay will
check on the availability of space on this date.
The next meeting is scheduled for Monday, Jan. 28 at
3pm in Academy 207.
