Assessment Committee

Assessment Meeting: March 4, 2002

Present:  John Achter, Mark Jensen, Susan Larson, Michelle Latt, Viann Pederson, Connie Peterson, Don Rice, Kay Schneider, Jennie Taylor

  1. Discussion of upcoming assessment dinner/symposium.  Kay described finalized plans for the assessment dinner.  27 people are signed up for the dinner.
  1. Department assessment review: 

a.      Individual members of the committee reviewed two departmental annual reports using the form Assessment Committee Response to Departmental Assessment Information between our last meeting and this one.  At this meeting, we discussed our ratings and formulated a plan for providing feedback to departments. 

b.     It was found that, in general, the members of assessment committee were consistent in their evaluations/feedback.  Thus, it was agreed that Mark J. would prepare a cover letter and formalized feedback for these two departments.  Additionally, it was agreed that he would create a covering statement summarizing the intent of this process to be used for all feedback provided.  In addition to this paragraph, each department will be given individualized feedback. 

c.      Subcommittees were created to work together evaluating the remaining departmental assessment reports.  These committees include the following people and while be responsible for the following departmental evaluations:

  • Mark, Michelle, Connie, Jennie: Bussiness/Accounting, Education, Health/PE, Physics, Psychology, Spanish

  • Don, John, Susan:  Classics, FNS, History, Nursing, Religion, Women Studies

  • Kay, Vianne, Mike: English, German, Library, Political Studies, Sociology 

  1. Meeting schedule for the rest of the semester:  

  • March 25/26 (as per subcommittees):  Subcommittees will meet to discuss evaluations of departmental assessment plans

  • April 9, 8:30 am: For this meetings, subcommittees will have completed a draft of the memos to be sent to each department.  These memos will be shared with the entire committee during this meeting. 

  • April 22, 3:00 pm: Final meeting for the year
