Assessment Committee

Minutes

1.      Meeting was called to order at 10:30

2.      Committee members introduced themselves

3.      Future meetings of the assessment committee will be held on Thursdays, 10:30-11:30.  Meeting dates during the fall semester are September 11 & 25, October 9 & 23, November 13, December 11.  Meetings will be held in Old Main 126.

4.      Charges from the SCC to the assessment committee were discussed.  Regarding workshops/discussions during the present semester, the committee decided to hold brown bag discussions on (1) use of focus groups in assessment, (2) discussion of the assessment data for the comprehensive evaluation, (3) using data to make decisions and support change.  The second workshop has tentatively been scheduled for October 9 at 12:00.

5.      The annual assessment banquet will be held early in the spring 2004 semester, likely during block III.

6.      The Assessment Committee will provide a brief report to the Core Committee regarding the “assessment” implications of the Summer Curriculum Task Force report Toward the Next Curriculum: A Report to the Concordia College Community.  Committee members are asked to review this report and bring it with them to the next meeting.

7.      Copies of the Self-Study Report, prepared for use during the comprehensive evaluation by the Higher Learning Commission, were distributed.  Committee members are asked to browse chapter six, the assessment chapter.

8.      During the semester, the Assessment Committee will provide feedback to departments regarding the assessment portion of their annual reports.  The Committee will review the approach used in previous years and determine what format to follow this year.

9.      Business for future meetings:  How do we evaluation the role of department liaisons?  Should the committee re-visit the survey of “faculty attitudes toward assessment”?  Mary F. D. Larson will report on the enhanced faculty mentor program.

10.  Next meeting: September 25.  Bring copies of the self-study report and the report of the Summer Curriculum Task Force.
