Concordia College Assessment Committee Minutes

Members Present: Betty Larson,  Ruth Lumb, Viann Pederson, Michael Wohlfeil (Chairperson), Kay Schneider, Marilyn Guy

 

Assessment Banquet:  33 people are registered to attend the banquet.  Mike and Kay will lead the discussion of the HLC’s comments regarding our assessment efforts and the next steps for assisting departments in meeting the HLC’s requirements.  We will distribute the timeline/process that the committee submitted to Senate and ask for input regarding this proposal.

 

February Workshops:  The February workshops will be Tuesday, February 24 at noon and Wednesday, February 25 at 2:40.  This workshop will discuss the HLC expectations, define “a complete cycle of assessment” and describe components of measurable objectives. 

 

Self Study Process:   We reviewed samples of self study guidelines from other institutions.  We decided we needed to focus this process on learning and teaching rather than on resources/inputs.  We will ask departments to describe their vision/mission statement and discuss plans for the future.  They will be asked to provide assessment results and other information that supports those plans for the future.  We may want to ask departments how they have used the assessment information gathered at the college and department levels.  We considered whether each report should include a SWOT analysis.  The departmental process should be integrated with the core goals and the strategic plan.  Kay and Viann will meet as a subcommittee to develop a draft for review at the March 15 meeting.

 

College Student Experiences Questionnaire:  Suggestions for additional questions to be included on the survey should be sent to Kay prior to spring break.  The questionnaire will be distributed to fourth year students in early/mid-March.

 

Next Meeting:  The next meeting is scheduled for Monday, March 15, 2004, at 2:40 in room 126 of Old Main.
