Concordia College Assessment Committee Minutes

March 15, 2005, 2:40-3:40, Old Main 126

Members Present: Betty Larson, Mary F.D. Larson, Kathie Leeper, Ruth Lumb, Kay Schneider, Viann Pederson, Michael Wohlfeil (Chairperson)

  1. An update was presented on the current plans for moving forward with the curriculum revision, including the possible recommendation that three separate task forces be established during the summer of 2004.  “The Assessment Committee believes that the continuing work on the curriculum would be more efficient if outcomes were identified and considered before moving forward with the process.  Until clearly defined student-learning outcomes are established, it is difficult to understand how decisions can be made about specific components (e.g., first-year curriculum; off-campus experience) and next steps in the process.”
  2. Kay Schneider commented on the workshops held to date for departmental assessment coordinators, noting that all departments but three (French, Philosophy, Physics) were represented at the February meeting.  The March meeting will focus on “Overcoming Barriers.”
  3. The committee discussed the draft of the self-study guidelines.  Viann will send out an up-to-date version to all committee members that will be discussed further at the Monday, March 22 meeting.

Next Meeting:  The next meeting is scheduled for Monday, March 22, 2004, Old Main 126, 2:40 pm.

Respectfully submitted,

Michael Wohlfeil
