The Committee continued to review applications for Core courses to be offered in the fall semester 2008-2009.  There was some initial discussion concerning errors made on the application forms and accompanying syllabi; some haste seems to have taken place in the preparation of the applications.

1.     Religion Courses

349                       Christian Ethics in the Modern World

314J        Paul: Apostle/Apostate

316                       The Good Life: Old Testament Perspectives

334                       Monotheisms

384                       Exploring Islam

385                       Religion in the Post Colonial World

392         Religion and World Affairs

After beginning our discussion of the first several courses, the committee decided that it would be necessary to have the guidance of a member of the Religion Department in our deliberations. Further discussion of these courses was halted until such a time when a Religion Professor could join us.

2.     Other Courses

Music 232                  History of Western Music

                        Approved for Humanities Exploration Designation

Philosophy 314 Asian Philosophy

The committee asked the instructor to resubmit this course having clarified that the syllabus submitted was actually the one attached to the course proposal.  Also requested was more detail concerning how this course intended to facilitate students becoming more responsibly engaged in the world

Respectfully submitted,

David Sandgren
