Core Committee Minutes

Members Present: Gregg Muilenburg, Lisa Sethre-Hofstad, Ahlifid Ingberg, David Sandgren, Madelyn Burchill, Paul Fretham and Sara Schwartz

Dean Krejci visited to discuss the calendar change and capstone.

Calendar:

Dean Krejci recommended Core Committee to join with the Off-Campus Committee in proposing to SCC that a summer task force to discuss calendar change be formed.

Summer task force should:

• Select a calendar format (1:3:3:1, etc.)
• Present rationale for format selection (benefits)
• Consider budget – include Linda Brown on summer task force

Calendar change would occur in 2010-2011 at earliest.

Capstone:

Curriculum Coordinating Committee has created a vision for capstones that will be presented to Senate. The conversation continued regarding how the capstone would be implemented and the impact it would have on the various departments. Students will only need to complete 1 capstone for the Core.

*&^% #$%* inquired of M. Burchill if an appeal for the following allowance would be advised. *&^% is considering appealing to have her religion major accepted although she is receiving a Bachelor of Music. She has completed the Core requirements and the religion major except the language requirement. The Core Committee recommended that she not appeal because they would not waive the language requirement.

The next meeting will be Thursday, February 7. Ernie Simmons from the religion department will be present to discuss religion courses and the core.
