The committee worked on
drafting an application for the Inquiry Seminars. There was much discussion on what needed to
be included.
Four parts of application
for Inquiry Seminars:
1. Goals- Liberal
Leaning
2. Criteria
3. Outcomes
4. Necessary
Components
Application includes goals
because there is not currently a complete document listing goals for Inquiry
Seminars.
Inquiry Seminar Application
Description-
taken from catalog
Goals Goals
for Liberal Learning
- Instructors
will introduce, but wont necessarily achieve all goals in course
Objectives-
measure a few of the goals depending on each course
Criteria
The committee likes the
overall themes of: awareness, understanding and ability,
Outcomes will
provide direction to instructors teaching Inquiry Seminars and provide a way
for future Core Committees a way to evaluate Inquiry Seminars.
Instructors should refer to
Intensive- Writing document and the goals/ criteria document on the Core
webpage.
Possibly invite David
Sprunger to a meeting to discuss Writing-Across-the-Core and Intensive-
Writing.
Core Committee will
announce to Department Chairs that each department needs to develop a statement
on writing in their discipline, as per the suggestions of the Writing Working
Group. M. Burchill will notify department
chairs of this request and that it must be submitted in order for future
courses to be considered. Document will
also be put on the Core webpage. Future
course applications will address Writing-Across-the-Core.
The work on the Inquiry
form will continue at the next meeting, Thursday, April 3, 2008 at 8 AM.
