Core Committee
Minutes
April 3, 2008
Lorentzsen Conference Room, 8:00 AM – 9:25 AM
Members present: D. Anderson, M. Burchill, A. Ingberg, D. Sandgren, L Sethre-Hofstad, G. Muilenburg, S. Schwartz.
We began with a brief discussion of Core’s proposed Senate motion to waive the requirement that students be of junior or senior standing before they can enroll in a 300-level Exploration Course for Core credit. We also want to eliminate any reference to the number of courses students may take from any one department to satisfy Exploration requirements. As our previously worded Senate motion is already on the agenda for April 7, 2008, we decided that we could make a friendly amendment to our own motion on the senate floor to reflect our new perspective. Heidi Manning of Senate Coordinating Committee will be notified of our intentions.
Next we continued to consider previous documents related to the establishment and purpose of Inquiry Seminars at Concordia. We were grateful to Dawn Duncan for preserving and forwarding to us via email foundational documents from the Inquiry and First-Year Experience working groups of a few years ago. We decided to modify one of those documents to reflect our current understanding of the role and purpose of Inquiry Seminars. We will post this (revised) document on the Core Committee website, and use it to establish a standard application form for future Inquiry Seminar proposals.
The next meeting will
be Tuesday April 8, 2008, at 8:00 AM.
Respectfully submitted by Douglas Anderson.
