Minutes – 12 January 2004 Committee news and businessMinutes from November 24 and December 1 were approved. .Rick reported on conversation with the committee liaison (Larry Papenfuss), about narrowing the scope of the committee charge for this year. Committee plans are to gather information this year on current curriculum resources needs, through surveys of faculty, staff and students; share information on curriculum resources over the summer with the curriculum models team; and develop the five-year plan for curriculum resources next year following the adoption of any new curriculum model. Keith reported on meeting with the Arts and Humanities division. Matters discussed of concern to the committee include interest among faculty in the development of an images database/repository; issues with technology support; interest among faculty for the development of electronic reserves (enhanced ability to link from course pages to full text article resources; conversion of other materials to electronic format to make them available to classes; assistance with copyright issues). Television Services proposed having Dean Olson serve as its representative to the committee. There were no objections from the committee; Rick with confirm that this is OK with the committee liaison. Survey of curriculum resources needsCommittee members decided to use an online format for the survey. How best to contact faculty about the survey could be an issue, in that a number of faculty routinely ignore Cobweb Express. Committee members also decided to develop separate surveys for students (distributed to a targeted subset of students) and to administrators & staff. Committee members brainstormed on additional questions for the survey. Discussion included having the bulk of the survey simple rating questions to facilitate faculty response rate (with some open-ended comments questions); how to organize the survey (around categories of resources or instructional functions); items to include (public labs, maps, classroom furniture, other aspects of the classroom environment, library resources and information literacy training, etc). Rick, with Cathy's assistance, will collate sections of survey developed so far and distribute drafts electronically. Shanna will work with Matt on items for a student survey; Keith and Sharon will work on administrative staff surveys. Next meeting will be 16 February at 8:30. Keith Landa15 February 2004 |
