1.         The description of the new course as it will appear in the catalog.

 

2.         Rationale for the change and how the new course will reflect this change in both content and expectations for student performance. (It may be helpful to provide a copy of the current syllabus for comparison.)

 

3.         Indication of how this course replicates, supports or extends material offered in another course on campus. Describe any consultation with other departments that have courses similar to the one being proposed. Invite departments with related or similar course offerings to convey in writing questions, concerns or support to the Curriculum Committee.

If this is a required course in another major, that major need to be revised to reflect these changes.

Goals are general, broad, often abstract statements of desired results.

Student learning outcomes are more specific, measurable statements about what knowledge, skills, or attitudes students will demonstrate upon completion of the course. 

It is recommended that the goals and learner outcomes be listed on the syllabus so students are aware of these purposes.

The committee must have a detailed syllabus to act on the course. The committee will utilize the goals and learner outcomes identified for the course in reviewing the syllabus.
