Meeting convened
at 5:30 pm. Approved minutes of meeting of October 10 and 12.
Proposed changes
in philosophy were discussed. The department requested that several courses be
renumbered in accordance with recommendations from a self-study.
(1) to rename 230
from “Symbolic Logic” to “Critical Reasoning” to reflect change in focus and
content. Change approved.
(2) renumber 330
(Existentialism) to 315 (Existentialism) to put in “historical survey range” of
course numbers. Number change approved.
(3) renumber 335
(Major Philosophers) to 325 (Major Philosophers) to put in “significant
individual philosophers” range of course numbers. Approved.
(4) renumber 328
(Kierkegaard) to 328 (Kierkegaard) to put in “significant individual
philosophers” range of course numbers. Approved.
(5) rename 407
from “Senior Seminar” to “Seminar in Philosophy”. Approved.
(6) “New
Course”/Course Renumbering from 200 to 300
q
renumber 260
(American Philosophy) to 313 (American Philosophy). Approved.
q
renumber 270
(Asian Philosophy) to 314 (Asian Philosophy). Approved.
The committee further
decided it would be a good idea to alter the course approval form to include a
check-off as to whether course number changes had been cleared with the
registrar's office before coming before the curriculum committee.
The final item
of business was a request for the World Discovery Tanzania Seminar (380) to be
approved for in progress (IP) status. The course is conducted abroad during
Summer I and the students would not be able to complete the work required by
end of this period. The IP status was approved.
