Meeting convened at 4:30 pm. Approved minutes of meeting of November 30.

The first item of business dealt with the Business Education major. 1) The following changes to the teaching major in business  education were proposed: elimination of B ED 240 (Advanced Word Process/Desktop Publishing; .5 credit), B ED 380 (Records and Information Management; .5 credit). B ED 310 (Advanced Spreadsheet Applications for Business .5 credit), B ED 380 (Intermediate Database Applications for Business, .5 credit) and B ED 380 (Introduction to Web Page Design; .5 credit). These changes would result in a reduction to the major from 12.5 to 10.5 credits. In addition, a  renumbering of B ED 399 (Keyboarding Proficiency Exam; N/C) was proposed. All changes passed unanimously.

The second item involved changes in the physical education and health education major. It was proposed that each major would reduce the number of required credits from 10.25 – 8. Also, the following changes in the coaching minor were requested: (1) to count Health 143 (First Aid and CPR) for a major in Phys Ed and coaching minor; (2) to continue to count Bio 101, Bio 306, PE 111 and PE 112 for both Physical Education and Health Education Majors; (3) to allow a proposed Inquiry seminar “Women in Sport” to be an option in the coaching minor.

The committee was concerned about the manner in which double counting health and physical education courses allowed students to receive two majors with fewer than sixteen credits in the two majors combined. We decided to forego approval at this time pending clarification from the registrar and the division chair.
