Meeting convened at 4:30 pm. Approved minutes of meeting of January 10.
First item of business was a continuation of changes to courses in the English majors in literature and writing:
The following courses were approved:
Eng 227 Foundations of Creative Writing (1.0) E
Eng 324 Technical Writing (1.) E2
Eng 377 Nonfiction Writing Seminar (1.0) E2 (recommend a statement of goals be inserted into syllabus)
Eng 378 Poetry Writing Seminar (1.0) E1
Eng 379 Fiction Writing Seminar (1.0) E1
For the following advanced writing courses, the committee witheld approval because of insufficient clarification within the syllabi on the differences between advanced and non advanced writing seminars.
Eng 477 Advanced Nonfiction Writing Seminar (1.0) E2
Eng 478 Advanced Poetry Writing Seminar (1.0) E1
Eng 479 Advanced Fiction Writing Seminar (1.0) E1

Furthermore, Eng 488 Senior Capstone in Literature E2, which was to undergo an increase from .5 to 1. credit and course number change, was not approved because the syllabus lacked a clear statement of goals.
The next item of business was the request for the approval of changes to the requirements for majors in English literature (inclusion of new/renamed courses, and moving from 8-8.5 courses to 9) and English writing (inclusion of new/renamed courses and moving from 8 to 10 courses) as well as the minors in English literature, writing, and journalism, in accordance with the above changes to course titles and credit levels. These changes to the requirements were unanimously approved.
The next request on the agenda involved the request to rename Psych 320 – Principles of Learning and Behavior to “Essentials of Conditioning and Learning” (.5 credit) until the current catalog group has graduated. In addition, a new course was proposed, Psych 318 – Learning and Behavior, for 1 credit. This course is essentially an extended treatment of Psych 320. Both changes were approved. The psychology department proposed a further new course, Psych 319 - Behavioral Neuroscience, 1 credit, which was also approved.
The next agenda item was the approval of a new history course, Hist 318: The Midwest: Local, State, and Regional Histories. After reviewing the syllabus, it was approved unanimously.
The final series of curricular changes involved a request to have as prerequisites Bio 121, 122, 221 and 222 for the following courses:
Bio 305: Ecology and Field Biology (formerly required Bio 121, 122, 224)
Bio 309: Ornithology (presently requires only 122)
Bio 311: Entomology and Related Arthropoda (presently requires only 122)
Bio 313: Plant Taxonomy (presently requires only 122)
Bio 324: Invertebrate Zoology (presently requires only 122)
Bio 336: Histology (presently only 101 or 121 listed)
Bio 352: Immunology and Parasitology (presently only 121 and 122 required with Bio 407 recommended)
Bio 402: Embryology (presently only 121 listed)
Bio 405: General Ecology (presently 121, 122 and 224 listed)
Bio 409: Limnology (presently 121, 122, 224 and Chem 127-128 required)
Bio 411 - Integrated Vertebrate Anatomy and Physiology II (presently lists Bio 121 and Chem 127; Chem 341 would continue to be recommended)

Bio 407 - Microbiology, which formerly required Bio 122 and Chem 127, would now require Bio 121.
Bio 412 – Integrated Vertebrate Anatomy and Physiology II, would now have as prerequisites Bio 121, 122, 221, 222, and Bio 411.
