Curriculum Committee Minutes

 

Members present: David Boggs, Dan Breedon, Susan Cordes Green, Karissa Enger, Mark Gealy, Stephen Grollman, Elna Solvang (Chair), Kristin Streifel

 

Meeting convened at 4:30 pm. Approved minutes of meeting of January 17.

 

The minutes from January 24, 2006 were approved.

Two history courses were considered first 1) A request for a new course: Hist 319: Colonial America; and 2) Title change for Hist 336: from “Clash of Cultures: The world and the West”, to “The world and the West”. Both requests were approved.

Next, we discussed requests for two new courses for biology: Bio 221: Ecology, and Bio 222 Genetics and Molecular biology. Both courses were approved.

Third were requests for two new Spanish/Hispanic Studies courses Span/Hispanic Stud 310 and 311. These courses were held and a request was made to the Spanish department to clarify the objectives.

After Spanish we addressed a new course proposal for CSTA: Elements of Costume. We deferred action on this course.

A proposal from chemistry and biology followed for a new course entitled Chem/Biol 152: Vocations in the Health Professions (.25). Because of the unique nature of this course in the sciences, we were not able to come to a consensus and decided to forego approval pending further discussion.

 

The meeting adjourned just before 6:00pm.
