Curriculum Committee Minutes

Members present: David Boggs, Susan Cordes Green, Karissa Enger, Stephen Grollman, Gregg Muilenburg, Logan Richman, Elna Solvang (Chair), Bill Todt

The Minutes of the April 11 meeting were approved.

The first agenda item was a point of information for the committee: The Biology department inquired about the process for establishing a limit on the number of courses that can be transferred in for a major. The register responded: “A department can make a policy on the maximum number of transfer credits they will bring into their major in consultation with our office.”

For the second item we revisited a new course proposal through Biology and Chemistry: Chem/Bio 152: Vocations in the Health Professions

(.25-credit). This course was approved with a recommendation to adjust the title, which committee members deemed unclear in its current iteration.

The next items, from French, were the following proposals:

·         New course: French 250  Pre May Seminar: Francophonie

·         Course modification: French 255: Change title of French 255 from "Pre-May Seminar" to "Pre-May Seminar: France"

These items were deemed ready for approval pending clarification of course numbers. It was unclear why the two pre-may seminars (French 250 and 255) need to have different numbers while the two different may seminars retain the same number (French 300).

Two related proposals from French were:

·         New course: French 300: May Seminar: Francophonie

·         course modification: Change title of French 300 (May Seminar) to two titles: May Seminar: France and May Seminar: Francophonie

These proposals were approved.

The meeting ended shortly after 5:30 pm.

Respectfully submitted.

Stephen Grollman
