Curriculum Committee Minutes
Members present: David Boggs, Susan Cordes Green, Karissa Enger, Stephen Grollman, Gregg Muilenburg, Logan Richman, Elna Solvang (Chair), Bill Todt
The minutes of the September 12 meeting were approved.
For the first item of business we revisited the new course proposals for French 250 and French 255. In our last meeting, we were unclear as to course numbering. The registrar clarified this issue, and the French department requested further that the course names now read: "French 250: Pre May Seminar: Francophone World", and "French 255: Pre-May Seminar: France". The courses received approval as modified. The committee did ask for some clarification on minor points in the syllabi.
Also requested was a name change for French 300 (approved on 9/12) from Francophonie to "Francophone World." The committee also approved this change.
In next item of business, the religion department proposed a new course Rel 392: Religion in World Affairs as an elective in the Global Studies major. The course was approved.
Religion and Sociology requested a joint course: REL/SOC 300: May Seminar to South Africa. The course was approved with the expectation that a Religion 100 course would be added as one of the prerequisites. The committee also recommended that the faculty engaging in the seminar assess the success of drawing from these different pre-may seminars.
The music department brought forth the next item of business, a new course proposal for summer study in Italy: Music 274: Italian Language and Culture. The course was approved.
The final item for consideration involved a new course from CSTA: THR 212: Lighting Design and Execution. The committee requested that some aspects of the course be clarified by CSTA prior to approval.
The meeting ended at 5:45 pm.
Respectfully submitted,
Stephen Grollman
