For the first item of business we revisited the request for a change in major requirements in the Mathematics major from its requirement of 2.0 credits of laboratory science. The wording of the text offered in our last meeting was clarified to read as follows: "In addition to the Core Exploration requirement of a 1.0 course credit in a laboratory science, either an additional 1.0 course credit in a laboratory science or CSC 125 – Introduction to Computer Science, 1.0 credit. Students also majoring in computer science, economics, business, accounting, management, international business or marketing may forego the second science requirement." The change was approved as written.
The next request was for a change in course credit in in EDUC 362. Methods of Teaching Modern and Classical Languages from its previous half credit status as EDUC 388 to a 1.0 credit course. This change was approved.
The next item was a new course proposal: PSYCH 383 "Psychology of Gender" 1.0 credit. This course is intended to replace the current course Psych 375 Psychology of women 0.5 credit. This new course was approved.
The next two items involved the French Department's education requirements. First, French sought a change in requirements for the major in Elementary Education - World Languages Specialization – French grades K-8. The change would allow students to take either FRENCH 255 Pre-May Seminar: France .5 credit or the newly approved course FRENCH 250 Pre-May Seminar: Francophone World 1 credit. A related request was for the same two courses (French 255, 250) to count toward the French Education Major with a Teaching License, grades K-12. Both changes were approved.
Finally, we received an informational item regarding CHEM 152 – Vocation and the Health Professions (.25 credit). The catalog description of the course has been drafted in accordance with some of the changes the committee suggested.
The meeting ended shortly after 5:30.
Respectfully submitted,
Stephen Grollman
