Curriculum Committee Minutes

 

Members present: David Boggs, Susan Cordes Green, Karissa Enger, Stephen Grollman, Gregg Muilenburg, Logan Richman, Elna Solvang (Chair), Bill Todt

The minutes for November 7 were approved.

The first item of business was a New Course Proposal – Life Cycle Nutrition (.5) credit – to replace FND 363 and to handle content previously taught as a module in FND 426 . This course was approved. A related item was a change in major for FND: To substitute FND 238 (Life Cycle Nutrition) for the current FND 363 (Methods of Teaching Nutrition); to drop CFS 235 (Individual and Family Health) and substitute one of the following business courses: 376 (Public Health), Bus 323 (Healthcare and Medical Needs), BUS 377 (Healthcare Law), or BUS 307 (US Healthcare Delivery). This change was approved.

The next item of business was a proposal from the Classical Studies Department. for a change in major – Latin Education Major with a Teaching License, grades K-12 (L.A.T.E.). The request was to substitute EDUC 362 – Secondary Methods of Teaching in Modern and Classical Languages (1 credit) for EDUC 388 – Methods of Teaching in Modern and Classical Languages (.5 credit).  The number of required credits will move from 8.5 to 9.0. This change was approved.

The last item was a discussion of the Spanish major study abroad requirement. The chair agreed to call in Susan Ellingson and Mary Rice for a future discussion of this change.

The meeting adjourned shortly after 5:30pm.
