Curriculum Committee Minutes

Members present: Susan Cordes Green, Karissa Enger, Stephen Grollman, Gregg Muilenburg, Logan Richman, Elna Solvang (Chair), Bill Todt, Jonathan Steinwand

The minutes for December 5 were approved.

The first item of business was a request for a change in major requirements for Spanish: to add the language: "Study Abroad/Language Immersion Requirement: A minimum of one semester of study abroad in a Spanish-speaking country."

This change was approved with a change in language of "one semester of study in a Spanish-speaking country."

The second request was for a change in change in major requirements for the following area: Elementary Education Major: Spanish Specialization Again to add the language:"Study Abroad/Language Immersion Requirement: A minimum of one semester of study abroad in a Spanish-speaking country." The motion was unanimously approved, and the word "abroad" was again deleted from the phrase.

The next item came from the music department as a request for a course modification: To change the grading system from S-U (Pass-Fail) to a standard letter grading system in the following diction courses:

All course modifications were unanimously approve

The next items of business concerned the requirements for receiving a minor in foreign language education with liscensure. It was requested to drop the minor in the following areas because the MN BOT does not allow minor preparation for a teaching liscence:

A number of world languages departments requested a further change in their majors to accommodate the new course: "EDUC 362: Secondary Methods of Teaching in World Languages (1 credit) should substitute for the current course, "EDUC 388 Methods of Teaching in Modern and Classical Languages (0.5 credit). The language majors in question were as follows:
