Curriculum Committee Minutes
Members present: Susan Cordes Green, Karissa Enger, Stephen Grollman, Gregg Muilenburg, Logan Richman, Elna Solvang (Chair), Bill Todt, Jonathan Steinwand
The minutes for January 9 and 16 were approved.
The first item of business was a change in program licensure: Early Childhood Family education (ECFE) Parent Educator License. In order to meet BOT standards, the following changes were proposed.
Add
EDUC 210 Foundations in K-12 (.5)
EDUC 221 Teaching in Middle School (.5)
EDUC 421 Advanced Reading Methods (.5)
EDUC 399 Orientation to Student Teaching (0)
EDUC 496 Student Teaching (2.5)
Drop: CFS 398 Orientation to the Parent Education Program (.5) and CFS
490 Practicum in Parent Education (.5).
Substitute: CFS 3XX Methods of Teaching Family Life Education (.5
credit).
This will increase the total credits from 6.5 to 9.5
The chair will clarify with the department whether in Part I the name of
the licensure should read Early Childhood Family Education (ECFE)
Parent Educator License.
This change was approved.
The next item, also from CFS, was a proposal for a change in major in Child and Family studies. The following course additions would be made to meet the curriculum requirements of the National Council on Family Relations:
CFS 389 Adult Education (.5cr)
CFS 422 Individual Management (.5cr)
CFS 399 Orientation to Student Teaching (0cr)
and
CFS 49 496 Student Teaching (1cr) OR CFS 390 Cooperative Education (1cr)
This change was approved.
A request was made to change the title of CL 130 from "Archaeology" to "Classical Archaeology". This change was held pending further clarification of scope of title by the department.
The next two items were course modification requests from the religion department: (1) to change The title of REL 325 from "Christianity and Community" to "Studies in Religious History". This change was approved. (2) change title of REL 327 from Eastern Orthodoxy, its Origins and Russian Expressions to "Eastern Orthodoxy" and to alter the course description in accordance with the broader scope of the new course. This change was approved.
The next seven requests were for course modifications and new courses from the music department:
(1) MUS 111 Materials of Music I. Will be modified
by adding basic aural skills training to curriculum. --approved
(2) MUS 343 change in title from "Instrumentation" to "Orchestration" --
approved
(3) MUS 423 change in course No. and title from "Form and Analysis I" to
"Critical Analysis I" --approved
(4) MUS 424 change in title from "Form and Analysis II" to "Critical
Analysis II --approved
(5) New course proposal: MUS 128 Aural Skills 1 (.5cr) to replace MUS
114 --approved
(6) New course proposal: MUS 225 Aural Skills II (.5cr) will replace MUS
213 --approved
(7) New course proposal MUS 226 Aural Skills III (.5cr) will replace MUS
214 --approved
