Curriculum Committee Minutes

Members present: Susan Cordes Green, Karissa Enger, Stephen Grollman, Gregg Muilenburg, Logan Richman, Elna Solvang (Chair), Bill Todt, Jonathan Steinwand

The first agenda item was to approve the decision to drop the English as a second language (K-12) program, including EDUC 397 Practicum. This decision was approved.

The second item involved a proposal for a course modification in CREDO 222A: Life in the Universe. The course would add a 2-hour laboratory section per week. This change was approved.

The next two items concerned a proposed new neuroscience program. First, a new course prefix was requested  with the title "Neuro" for courses in neuroscience. This designation was approved. Second, a new minor in Neuroscience was requested. 5.5 credits total, consisting of the following courses

  • Intro to Neuroscience (1cr)
  • Intro to Neuroscience Lab
  • Neurobiology or Behavioral Neuroscience (1cr)
  • Neurochemistry or Drugs and Behavior (1cr)
  • Senior Seminar (.5)
  • Two additional supporting courses (from a list of Neuro courses or a list of Chem, Bio, and Psych courses)

The minor was approved as written.

The next item, from English, was a request for a new course: Eng112. American English Language and Culture. The course is intended for international students whose native language is different from English. We approved the course. It will now go on to the core committee for consideration as a World Languages Exploration course.

The final item was a new course: REL 382. Religion and the Body. This course was approved.

The committee adjourned at 5:30

Respectfully submitted,

Stephen Grollman
