Curriculum Committee Minutes

Members present: Susan Cordes Green, Karissa Enger, Stephen Grollman, Logan Richman, Elna Solvang (Chair), Bill Todt, Jonathan Steinwand

The first four items came from the education department.

1. The following majors need to be dropped because the MN BOT does not offer a 5-12 license:

This change was approved.

2. changes in requirements for specialty area: Elementary Education with a Science Specialty, grades 5-8: To

drop Earth Science 106 (Introductory Astronomy: Stars, Nebulae and Cosmology) from the list of Earth Science options.

 

This change was approved.

3. Request for new licensure program: General Science, grades 5-8

Requirements: 8 credits

This change was approved.

4. Course modificiations: EDUC 420 (Knowledge, Literacy and Inquiry), EDUC 421 (Advanced Reading Methods of Teaching for the Elementary School), EDUC 425 (Education of the Exceptional Child). Change the first sentence to read “Offered during four weeks opposite student teaching each semester.”

 

The next item concerned a new course for students who enter Concordia on warning status: INQ 101 Critical Thinking/College Learning Strategies. After a discussion with Amy Sannes, the course was approved.

 

The committee adjourned shortly after 5:40pm.
