Curriculum Committee Minutes
Members present: Susan Cordes-Green, Stephen Grollman, Michelle Lelwica, Mary Rice, Jonathan Steinwand (chair), Samantha Schmidt
Minutes for October 9, 2007 meeting were approved.
The first item of business was a proposal for change in course credit, to allow students to take Directed Research for .25 as well as continue to allow students to take it at .5 or 1.0 course credits. The proposal was approved with feedback that the required workload should match the amount of credit being offered.
The next two items were issues for discussion. First, we reviewed of our charge from SCC: "Develop mechanisms to implement Senate legislation as delegated by Curriculum Coordinating Committee and oversee its implementation.". Second, we considered the idea of a 7 year expiration on courses in the curriculum as a way to get each course to address the liberal learning goals and to keep each course over time connected to the curriculum goals. There was general consensus that such a process would be too unwieldy for our committee. It was noted that departmental assessment already serves as the mechanism for insuring that courses fulfill the currently required goals and outcomes.
The meeting ended at 10: 25
Respectfully Submitted,
Stephen Grollman
