  1. Election Process for Curriculum Task Force

As specified in the relevant motion from Core Committee, the Faculty Senate will elect the three faculty task force members from the faculty-as-a-whole. Election will take place in the following manger:

By Friday, Jan. 14 e-mail will go out to all faculty asking for self-nominations. The email will include a statement about criteria for serving on the task force and a list of all eligible faculty. It will direct faculty with questions about the task force charge to Senate minutes. The names of those willing to serve will then be placed on a ballot, which will be brought to Senate at its Jan. 24 meeting, at which time additional nominations from the floor will be entertained.

  1. Senate replacement for Susan O’Shaughnessy

Larry Alderink has been asked to fill this term; we do not yet know his answer.

  1. Senate Meeting Agenda

Jan. 24, 2005

As the Senate forgot to table discussion of motions 1-4 from Curriculum Committee at the Jan 11 meeting, we will have a new agenda that will consist of these motions. No additional agenda items were suggested.

  1. We continued our discussion of last week about possible speakers for spring commencement. The following people were suggested:

Bill Moyers, journalist; Hedrik Smith, journalist; former president Jimmy Carter; Millard Fuller, founder of Habitat for Humanity; Jan Egeland, UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs; William Julius Wilson, Harvard sociologist and scholar of urban poverty; Arlie Hochschild, UC-Berkeley sociologist and author of The Time Bind: When Work Becomes Home and Home Becomes Work

Respectfully submitted,
Cathy McMullen
for Roy Hammerling who was absent
Secretary of the Faculty
