Submission Deadlines

Please note that for all types of human subjects research protocols, human subjects may not be recruited or research initiated until final IRB approval has been received in writing.

Protocols believed to meet the requirements for exempt status should be submitted to the appropriate department chair or to the CC IRB chair for review at least one week prior to the date on which investigators plan to start data collection.

Expedited protocols must be submitted to the CC IRB for review at least two weeks prior to the date on which investigators plan to start data collection. If the investigators wish to begin collecting data during a long break (e.g. winter break or summer break), then the protocol should be submitted for review at least two weeks prior to the start of the break.

Expedited research is approved for a maximum period of one year. Renewal requests must be submitted at least two weeks prior to the approval expiration date. The approval expiration date is clearly noted on all CC IRB certifications sent to the principal investigator and must be strictly adhered to. If the approval expiration date occurs during a long break (e.g. winter break or summer break), then the request for continuing review should be submitted at least two weeks prior to the start of the break. Please allow at least two weeks for review of expedited modification requests.

Protocols requiring full-board review should be submitted to the CC IRB for review at least three weeks prior to the date on which investigators plan to start data collection. If the investigators wish to begin collecting data during a long break (e.g. winter break or summer break), then the protocol should be submitted for review at least three weeks prior to the start of the break.

Protocols requiring full-board review are approved for a maximum period of one year. Renewal requests must be submitted at least three weeks prior to the approval expiration date. The approval expiration date is clearly noted on all CC IRB certifications sent to the principal investigator and must be strictly adhered to. If the approval expiration date occurs during a long break (e.g. winter break or summer break), then the request for continuing review should be submitted at least three weeks prior to the start of the break. Please allow at least three weeks for full-board review of modification requests.
