23 May - Faculty Colloquium Series, Call for Proposals
Faculty in all disciplines are encouraged to submit proposals for the
2006-2007 academic year. The Faculty Colloquium Series offers an opportunity for
faculty to gather as an academic community and to present scholarly projects and
research with colleagues.
The 2006-2007 format has a few changes from previous years. There are two
Community Times reserved for the FCS. Two presentations are scheduled in the
Centrum. Each presentation should be a maximum of 20 minutes with 10 additional
minutes for questions and answers. There will also be the usual Tuesday
afternoon sessions, 4:30-5:30 p.m., in Frida Nilsen Lounge. The Tuesday
afternoon sessions should be 40 minutes maximum with an additional 20 minutes
for Q & A.
The available dates are:
- Community Time, Friday, December 1, 2006 (two 20-minute presentations)
- Community Time, Friday, January 19, 2007 (two 20-minute presentations)
- Tuesday, February 6, 2007 (one 40-minute presentation)
Note: A FCS is also scheduled on Tuesday, October 3. This date has been
reserved for a faculty member who requested a time slot in the 2005-2006
academic year but we were unable to accommodate.
Please submit all proposals to Paul Seifert at
seifert@cord.edu. Please include the title
of your presentation, a one-paragraph description, and your choice of date one
of the available dates. The deadline for proposals is Friday, June 30, 2006.
Proposals submitted prior to the June 30 deadline will receive first
consideration. Proposals submitted after the June 30 deadline will be accepted
for time slot that may remain available.
Faculty presenters will receive a $150.00 honorarium for the Tuesday sessions
and $75 for the Community Time sessions.
4 May - Interlibrary Loan
Interlibrary Loan is now available via MnPALS, the library’s new online
catalog. To use this feature, begin by choosing “All MnPALS Libraries” from the
drop down menu at the top of the catalog. Next, log in to “Your Borrowing
Record” using your 14 digit library number and your last name, then begin
searching. When you locate an item you wish to order, click on the title to view
additional information, including the “ILL Request” button. Complete all
required fields on the request form and submit the information.

4 May - 2006 Summer Workshops

The following faculty workshops will be offered during the summer of 2006.
Payment is based on the terms of your salary contract. Faculty with at least
half-time appointments, and 9-month contracts during the 2006-2007 academic year
will receive participation stipends of $100 per day for most workshops
(pro-rated for half-days). The maximum stipend is $300 for the summer. Please

Conducting Ethical Research Using Human Subjects: What do I need to know?
May 16 and 17, 12:30 - 4:30 pm, BW 141

This workshop addresses historical events that led to the formulation of the
various codes of Research Ethics, what an Institutional Review Board's (IRB)
responsibilities are, the different types of projects that require institutional
review, how to submit a protocol for IRB review, ethical guidelines for special
populations, required education for principal investigators, and required
reports to the IRB. The workshop offers participants the opportunity to bring
their own questions on ethics in human subjects research to be discussed during
the workshop. Toward the end of the workshop, participants will be asked to
explore the ethical issues raised by the conduct of human subjects research
using several case studies.

Talk About Learning-Using Assessment Information to Enhance Student
Learning
June 20 and 21, 8 am - 4 pm, Frida Nilsen Lounge
This workshop will enable academic departments to make progress in their
assessment efforts. This workshop will enable faculty to make progress in
refining learning outcomes, developing new assessment methods, evaluating
information that has been gathered through the assessment plan, and discussing
uses of assessment data. This workshop is also an opportunity for the assessment
committee to support faculty members' assessment efforts.

Preparing for Promotion and Tenure Reviews
June 27 and 28, 12:30 - 4:30 pm, Frida Nilsen Lounge
This workshop will address matters related to the overall faculty review
process at the college, PT&E expectations for evaluation materials for faculty
being reviewed for tenure and promotion, preparing for a promotion or tenure
review and the work of evaluation committees. The workshop will also allow
participants to 'workshop' about their own evaluation materials.
