Theatre
at Concordia
Students at Concordia College
engage Theatre Art through intellectual rigor, personal dedication and creative
excellence. Theatre acts as a catalyst for a liberal arts education
because elements of the theatrical event occur in every avocation and vocation
in society. Many students plan for a career in Theatre, while others
undertake Theatre studies to help them prepare for careers in business, the
ministry, education and community involvement. Other students get involved
because they enjoy participating in productions. Concordia’s Theatre
classes and co-curricular productions enhance the college experience and provide
excellent educational opportunities.
Theatre at Concordia is first and
foremost an educational experience. Almost everything associated with theatre
production is conducive to the development of “life skills.” In
classes and productions, students are immersed in the process of understanding
and interpreting the play, and in communicating its messages accurately and
effectively to the audience. Concordia’s Theatre students learn resource
management, creative problem solving, effective interpersonal communication,
performance techniques and design skills.
Students involved in theatre at Concordia often make close friends, develop
their talents and abilities, and increase their understanding of the world as
they explore the many aspects of each production. Participants learn how
to be flexible, innovative and creative through the growth that theatre study
provides.
