What services do we offer? |
The Writing Center, a division of Concordia's Academic Enhancement Center, provides all Concordia students with the opportunity to work one-on-one with experienced peer tutors.
Our tutors are upper-class students who come to us from a variety of departments and programs.
You've already paid for our services by paying your Concordia tuition. Come and get your money's worth!
We work primarily with students on their academic essays. Most frequently, we work alongside Concordia's most writing-dependent courses, which include the Inquiry Written Communication, Inquiry Seminar, Inquiry Oral Communication, and Religion. However, we see numerous papers from a wide variety of disciplines: philosophy, political science, English, psychology, and so on. There are no disciplinary borders or boundaries to the work we do. As more science professors incorporate writing into their courses, we begin to see more of those papers as well. A few students come to talk to us about lab reports, and we're happy to do this work. While we probably won't be experts on every topic you bring to us, we will always be able to serve as careful, interested readers.
We are able to schedule regular appointments with students who want to work on improving their overall writing skills. Please call 299-4334 or email stevier@cord.edu if you have questions about this service.

What happens at a "writing tutorial"? |
Our tutorials are one-on-one conferences that are designed to help you with one or two large areas or several "small" areas of your writing. In general, we see the work we do with you in writing tutorials as an opportunity to work on not just the paper before us, but on developing strategies that can help you with your future writing work.
We strongly suggest that you sign up for half an hour's conference time if your paper is about five to seven pages. If your paper is longer, you'll need to sign up for an hour session. If at all possible, bring two copies of your paper to your tutorial with you. If we have a "extra" copy to look at while you work on your essay, we can give you better, faster feedback.
Bring a pen. We want you to do the note-taking while our tutors work with you on your paper.
