Empowerment for Girls
Mission of Empowerment for Girls:
*Our program exists to empower girls by promoting self-esteem and the development of leadership skills in an environment safe for girls to embrace their uniqueness and celebrate diversity.*
Vision Statement:
*To create a culture of learning and respect in the Cass Clay area where girls become creative thinkers, confident women, and committed leaders in their communities.*
The Empowerment of Girls
program
serves as a catalyst for girls to:
* Increase independence and confidence in themselves
*Learn to accept others and be respectful of differences
* Become active and influential participants and leaders in their communities
* Better their decision making skills and plan for their futures
Roles of Mentors:
* Mentors visit their site once a week for about two hours. They interact with fourth through sixth grade girls by doing activities so that they are aware of issues they face.
*Mentors are expected to be good role models, show emotional support, act as a security net for "safe risk taking", spark career exploration, and be accountable and stable.
Why Youth Need Mentors:
* To work through peer pressure.
* To get educated about substance abuse.
* To become educated on sexuality.
* Help cope with child and family abuse.
* To help with school safety and violence.
* To cope with depression and suicide.
