The department of German has designed areas of study that encourage all of our students to reach their highest potential. Whether you take one year of German or pursue a major or minor, you will find our courses stimulating and engaging. From aesthetic considerations of literature, art and music, to questions about society, politics and culture, to the practical application of German in the business world, we accomodate the broad range of interests that our students bring to their liberal arts education. Our proficiency-based approach to language learning ensures that you will rapidly develop skills in reading, writing, listening, and speaking German. The overall goal of our courses, however, is to reinforce the importance of language and culture in our increasingly internationally focused world.
