Concordia College offers five students the opportunity to study courses in their field(s) of interest at the Friedrich-Schiller-Universität in Jena. A city of 100,000, Jena is located on the edge of the Thüringer Forest in the Saale Valley. It is situated on main train lines to all parts of Germany and is within easy traveling distance to Berlin, Poland and the Czech Republic. Jena offers a unique opportunity to learn first hand the changes occurring in eastern Germany, to experience German customs and holidays, and to make German friends.

The Jena Program runs according to the academic calendar in Jena, with the students arriving approximately 2-3 weeks before classes start for an orientation program and to become acquainted with the environs. The Winter Semester begins around October 15 and ends about February 15. The Summer Semester begins the beginning of April and ends the beginning of July.

Housing

Students stay in student dormitories. Every attempt is made to place students together with native Germans.

Credit for Courses

Students should be familiar with their academic needs before leaving for Jena and take courses there which will help them graduate on time. It is expected that each student attends four regular courses each semester and acquire benotete Scheine (graded credit slips) for each course. For all courses, students should save all syllabi, notes, tests and papers in case of questions about grades or course transference. All grades will be entered by the Registrar once the student has submitted grades to the program director after the end of the second semester. The other requirement is to get involved in some extra activity with other students (choir, orchestra, sports) or with the community (church work, social service, etc.) and to write a report on it at the end of the year. Students are expected to maintain regular contact with the Moorhead program director through mail or e-mail.
