EDUCATION BENEFITS

Continuing Education
Concordia College encourages the enhancement of your personal development and education. The College provides you with the following opportunities:
1. You and your spouse may choose to take one class per semester at Concordia College with a 90 percent discount. This is available to all regular employees working at least half time. Classes must be scheduled in accordance with the work needs of your department, and arranged in advance with your supervisor. You must complete a Tuition Discount Form in the Office of Human Resources in order to qualify for this discount.
2. In-service training is regularly scheduled for your benefit.
3. Your attendance at seminars, conferences and workshops may be financed or partially financed by
the College when deemed beneficial.

Tuition Allowance for Spouses and Children of Employees
All spouses and children, including legally adopted children, of Concordia College employees with at least a half-time status are eligible for a Concordia College tuition allowance. The tuition allowance relates to the tuition and general fees, not including room and board, as listed in the College catalog.

The tuition allowance is granted as follows:
Full-Time Employees Part-Time Employees
1st Year — no discount 1st Year — no discount
2nd Year — 23 percent discount 2nd Year — 23 percent discount X FTE
3rd Year — 45 percent discount 3rd Year — 45 percent discount X FTE
4th Year — 68 percent discount 4th Year — 68 percent Discount X FTE
90 percent discount thereafter 90 percent discount X FTE

Applications for tuition allowance are available from the Office of Human Resources and our website:
www.cord.edu/dept/humres/forms.html. Tuition allowance is not intended to replace gift assistance available from state, federal or private sources. An applicant for tuition allowance must apply annually for financial aid.

Children of employees who are recipients of Concordia-sponsored scholarships may receive a combination of our scholarships and employee tuition discount which would not exceed tuition. Total gift assistance, through the tuition allowance and other sources, cannot exceed the College comprehensive fee (tuition, fees, room, and board).
• Please note that spouses of employees have a choice when taking more than one class:
1. 90 percent discount on one class; or
2. Discount on all classes based on years of service.

Children, including legally adopted children, of full-time staff with one year of service are also eligible for three other Tuition Discount Programs. Tuition allowances terminate for children who have qualified for the bachelor’s degree, attended another college or university nine semesters or the equivalent, earned 36 credits or the equivalent, reached age 25, or when the employee is no longer employed by the College, whichever occurs first. Concordia College does not have authority to speak for other institutions. The tuition exchange programs are in place and generally available but the host institution controls admission.

The three programs are as follows:
ELCA Tuition Plan — This program includes all those participating institutions that are affiliated with the ELCA. Participants may be active in the Tuition Plan for a maximum of four years at the undergraduate level, and summer school may be included. Participants are able to receive up to, but no more than, the same discount that they would be eligible for if they were attending Concordia College. Scholarship covers only the cost of tuition, not room, board, nor other fees.

Tuition Exchange Program (TE) — The TE program is open to the children of Concordia College employees provided that the employee would be eligible for a 90 percent tuition discount at Concordia. More than 350 colleges and universities belong to TE. Participants may utilize the Tuition Exchange Program, which covers tuition costs up to a designated limit, for up to eight semesters.

Council of Independent Colleges (CIC) Tuition Exchange Program — Children of Concordia employees who are eligible for a 90 percent tuition discount at Concordia College are eligible for the CIC Tuition Exchange Program.

In addition to the three programs described above, a maximum 50 percent tuition allowance (similar to the phase-in discount timetable for Concordia College’s tuition allowance) is available at Oak Grove Lutheran School. More information on this discount is available at the Office of Human Resources.
