In the Footsteps of Luther

We will literally walk in Luther’s historic footsteps in Germany. We start in dynamic Berlin and travel to Lutherstadt Wittenberg where the Reformation began. We will visit the Lutherhaus museum, the City Church, Castle Church, Cranach House as well as the ELCA Wittenberg Center and attend a lecture on Luther and the Reformation in Wittenberg. We will take additional trips to Leipzig to visit St. Thomas Church, where J.S. Bach was organist and is buried, and St. Nicholas Church, the birthplace of the peaceful revolution that brought down the Berlin Wall; then to Eisleben, Luther’s birthplace and where we’ll visit with American ELCA missionaries. We will spend two nights in Erfurt, where Luther was schooled and joined the Augustinian cloister, and journey to Eisenach to visit Wartburg Castle where Luther was held in friendly captivity. We’ll also stop in Weimar and the Buchenwald concentration camp. We return to Berlin for three nights with a city tour and visit to the Bonhoeffer House, Checkpoint Charlie Museum, the Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church and Brandenberg Gate. Our last day will be entirely free in Berlin to explore this fantastic world capital at our leisure.
