Help celebrate the birthday anniversaries of two of
Vienna’s most famous sons, the musical genius Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart,
who turns 250, and the father of psychoanalysis, Sigmund Freud, who
turns 150. We’ll experience firsthand the culture and historical climate
of Vienna with focus on the city’s distinctive political, economic,
ideological, social and artistic milieu. Our journey will begin with a
culinary and musical evening at the Piaristenkeller, where we will hear
the master’s music and thoroughly enjoy what Mozart fondly called “Kapaundl.”
We will continue our musical excursion at beautiful theaters where
Mozart’s music was performed, including the Staatsoper, where we will
attend “Carmen” and the Theater an der Wien, where we will see “Die
Zauberflöte.” Visits to Schönbrunn, the Imperial Treasury and the
Hofburg Palace demonstrate the wealth of culture and political power the
Hapsburgs enjoyed for centuries. Tours of the Jewish museum offers
insight into the history culture of a people who made invaluable
contributions to Vienna, and a visit to the Sigmund Freud Museum offers
us wonderful information about the life and theories of this most
influential psychoanalyst. We will experience Vienna of the Fin de
Siècle by visiting the Secession and the Arnold Schoenberg Haus. Our
journey will conclude with some of the Viennese favorite activities:
touring Haus der Musik, enjoying rides at the Prater, visiting a coffee
house, and indulging in a genuine Viennese dinner at the Gulaschmuseum. |
