May Seminars

May Seminars offer a
unique learning experience, as the world becomes the classroom.
Traveling on one of these seminars, students and faculty leaders will
have the opportunity to apply what they’ve learned at Concordia in the
real world. Much more than a guided tour, the trip provides a look into
the daily lives of people from different cultures. After pre-seminar
study on campus, formal and informal discussions with experts, cultural
events and visits to private homes, it will quickly become clear that
this is an experience like no other. In addition to the academic portion
of the trip, students learn to travel and interact in a different
culture and with a variety of people.
Led by Concordia faculty, about 200 students each May explore a wide
variety of topics visiting sites around the world: language, literature,
culture, art, theatre, economics, religion, politics, education, and more.
May Seminars
carry 1.0 course credit and can usually be applied to requirements for
academic majors. World language departments in particular encourage
students to plan a May Seminar as part of their academic program, but the
seminars enrich any major. Students often develop expertise in the
seminar's topic area during a pre-seminar course taken spring semester. 2007
