Management Information Systems (MIS):

Because information technology impacts business activity at every level, the study of Management Information Systems (MIS) has emerged as an important area of instruction.  MIS is the application of computing technology to solve business problems.  The MIS professional applies his/her knowledge of information systems and technology to help organizations compete more successfully in the marketplace, streamline current operations, and  more effectively use their computer resources.  MIS professionals use their business backgrounds to work with managers and users to specify technology needs that benefit the organization.  MIS graduates can pursue both technical and managerial careers incorporating leading edge technologies in public and private organizations.

The MIS Program at Concordia College is an interdisciplinary plan of study that includes courses from both the Business, Accounting and Economics Department, and the Mathematics and Computer Science Department.  The strength of the program is its combination of Concordia's liberal arts curriculum, technology skills, and the principles of the functional areas of business.  The program emphasizes both theory and practice, and is shaped by the needs of the community based on input from an advisory group of regional MIS employers.  In addition to the required coursework, students in their junior or senior year must complete a coop in the MIS area.  Thus students obtain workplace experience, which is highly valued in today's job market.

Requirements for the MIS Program are a major (e.g. in Business, Computer Science, or Economics) and completion of all of the courses listed below.
