Dear Participating Teachers in the Tri-College Mathematics Competition,

The previous policy of the Tri-College Mathematics Competition was to assume grade groupings of 7-9 and 10-12. However, many local districts have moved to a 6-8 and 9-12 configuration. With this in mind, next year’s (March 5th, 2008) Tri-College Mathematics Competition, hosted by MSU Moorhead, will be structured by grades 6-8 and 9-12. At each level, a team must consist of eight members, not more than four of whom are in the highest grade.

For the new Middle grade test that means at least 4 students must be in grades 6 or 7, but there is no requirement to have a 6th grader on a team. The High school test must have at least 1 student in grades 9 or 10, but again there is no requirement to have a 9th grader on the team.

The award categories will be as follows:

Senior High (9-12)

Division I Individual (9) 1st-3rd places

Division I Individual (10-12) 1st-10th places

Division I Team (9-12) 1st-5th places

Division II Individual (9) 1st-3rd places

Division II Individual (10-12) 1st-10th places

Division II Team (9-12) 1st-5th places

Junior High (6-8)

Division I Individual 1st-10th places

Division I Team 1st-5th places

Division II Individual 1st-10th places

Division II Team 1st-5th places
