Biomechanical Technique Paper
Technique Paper: Students will complete a qualitative
biomechanical paper describing the technique/coaching pointers for an activity
of the students’ choice. Students will develop a video checklist to assess
technique. The activity should
be divided into phases to assist in the description of the technique. The paper should utilize
biomechanical
and anatomical terminology learned from class. Using the technique
checklist, students will analyze and compare two performers for
the activity, one novice and one skilled. Students should detail the
differences between the novice and skilled performers.
Students should describe at least one drill or skill building
activity each athlete can utilize to correct technical flaws. Students may use
coaches, the library, interlibrary loan and the internet
to assist in the writing of the technique paper. Each source should be
appropriately noted.
Include in paper:
- A brief description of your activity and what methods you
used to analyze the performers (i.e. videotape analysis from what angle or
plane?).
- Description (written in paragraph form) of ideal/perfect
form.
- Checklist of important technique for each phase of the
activity. Fill out the checklist for each performer and include in the
paper.
- Comment on each performers' flaws and correct skills
noting the probable cause of the flaws.
- Describe at least one drill or skill building activity for
each performer, either to correct a flaw or to maintain a correct skill if
they do not have a flaw.
